Great Blue Heron at it’s New Home in Ontario

We just received this picture taken by our clients of the Great Blue Heron panel commission that made a successful trip from Innisfail,  Alberta to Toronto, Ontario in March of this year. Subsequently,  it has now traveled north of Toronto to an area of rolling hills and beautiful scenery.

Stained Glass Construction Tips

When we put jewels into a suncatcher, if you put a penny under them before soldering the piece, it raises the jewel above the surrounding glass and makes the jewels stand out and shows off their true beauty much more effectively.

For pin boards we obtain smooth white ceiling tile which can be obtained in 2 ft x 4 ft sizes at most home building suppliers. We then cut boards to the size we desire,  put 2 together back to back with the edges duck taped. That way you can use both sides many times. The stained glass pins  hold your work extremely well on these boards. You can also make larger boards when needed and you can see that in the pictures of “Noah’s Ark” on our website that we made a couple of years ago.

The reason we put 2 boards together is that they are much stronger and more rigid than just using a single piece of ceiling tile.

Miniature Church Stained Glass Window

Quite a few years ago the United Church in Innisfail was making a small model of a church, which if memory serves us correctly, was going to be auctioned off as a fund raiser.

When we saw it we decided to help by adding a small stained glass window which would add to the authenticity of the model church. This was our design.

Sprint Racing Car

This Sprint Racing Car was made many years ago from a photo for our son Greg who wanted to give it as a gift to one of his racing friends in Edmonton, Alberta.  The center of the wheels was made using sheet foil with a thin layer of solder which gives the chrome look. Greg helped to complete the car by adding the lettering.

“Don’t Look Up”

Many years ago before we had a digital camera we made this from “Pattern of the month” which is available on Spectrum’s website under their free pattern section.

We had to use our saw to cut most of the glass and this proved difficult at times as Spectrum’s Waterglass is somewhat soft and can easily scratch. We did finally figure out when doing any type of intricate cutting and even grinding that if you glue paper to the back side of the glass it will prevent most or all scratching during the cutting and grinding processes.

Needless to say we would not make another as it was very time consuming.
