This is the second of 4 new windows for the Willowdale Zion Presbyterian Church at the Sunnybrook Farm Museum in Red Deer Alberta. These windows all measure some 26 inches wide by 57 inches high, cathedral shaped. This music note, cross and lady slipper flower design were the ideas of the donor family and after consultations with the donors, ourselves and Martha Hanson of Paned Expressions Studios in Edgewood Maryland, the pattern was created.
This window consisted of some 215+ pieces of glass, constructed with the copper foil method, with all seams hand soldered with 60/40 solder. The panel then cleaned with Kwik Clean – Novacan Black Patina – then polished with Kem-Pro Clarity Polish.
We used a came bender to make the 3/4 inch zinc border came, with all solder joints attached to the came. It was quite a measuring job to ensure that the 6 old windows and the 4 new windows all were made to precise measurements. The museums contractor did an amazing jobĀ installing all of these windows into the new double paned window frames.
