Open Hummingbird Panel with Gemstones 2020

As a gift we made this open Hummingbird Panel, complete with some Gemstones. The panel measured approximately 7.5 inches wide by 8 inches high. The recipient loved Hummingbirds and Gemstones. The Gemstones were attached with E6000 glue.

A helpful hint for anyone wanting to make a panel like this is to pre cut, fit and form the wire. We used some light welding rod and 18 gauge tinned wire.  Before attaching the rod and wire we beaded the edges. The welding rod was tinned prior to installing so as not to incur a lot of heat on the glass parts and with the beaded edges attaching was fairly easy as we held the various pieces with needle nose pliers to ensure that they fit half way between the glass edges.

Beveled Northern Lights/Polar Bear Panel 2019

Our clients asked us if we could repair this beveled Polar Bear/Northern Lights panel, which measures approximately 40 inches wide x 14 inches high. Unfortunately the left side of the border came had pulled apart.  Fortunately the panel did not get broken.

We carefully removed that piece of border came and then re-attached it to the panel as well as strengthen all of the solder seams on both sides/corners of the panel that butted up to the came.

The first picture shows the completed repair, after being cleaned with Kwik Clean and Clarity stained glass polish applied.

This is a very pretty panel. Most of the glass used for the northern lights was Spectrums Artiques along with Spectrums white waterglass. The Polar Bear is a Glassmith bevel cluster.

The following photo shows where the left side came had come loose from the panel.

Zebra Panel Christmas 2017

This Zebra panel was commissioned for Christmas 2017 and measured 10 inches wide x 14 inches high. We fortunately still had some Spectrum Baroque #BR 6000 – Black/White/Clear for the 4 corners and for the rest of the frame we had a discontinued piece of Spectrum #4000-9SF Black/Clear.

We used Spectrum #1009W Black Waterglass for the Zebra’s black lines and Spectrum #200CC Corsica Pot White Opal for the white portions. For the nose and ears we used Bullseye Charcoal Grey  Double Rolled #1129.

The background glass was Spectrum #823.92 Teal Green Swirled with White Wispy. The frame is 3/8 inch zinc came, drilled very carefully with key chain rings inserted for the hanging chain,

When making panels we use the Morton Layout Block System and we use a metal square to ensure that the panel is square, as well as making sure corner to corner measurements are exactly the same.
